I help adults find and trust their bodies and inner selves. My journey to becoming a therapist specializing in religious trauma began in a place of deep orthodoxy. Raised in a high-demand religion, I dedicated 20 years of my life to serving as a full-time religious educator as a seminary teacher for the LDS church. This immersive experience gave me a firsthand understanding of the complexities of religious belief systems, the pressures of conformity, and the challenges individuals face when their internal world diverges from external expectations.
Navigating the loss of community, identity, and certainty led me to a deeper understanding of compassion, authenticity, and the importance of honoring individual values. This personal experience informs my work with clients today. It also deepened my relationship with my wife of 24 years, as we navigated this transition together and discovered a newfound richness in our connection built on mutual respect and shared values.
I provide a safe and supportive space for individuals navigating the effects of religious trauma, especially for those who identify as LGBTQ+ and their family members and are grappling with the intersection of their faith and identity.
I assist clients in:
My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and grounded in empathy. I believe in the power of listening, validating your experiences, and empowering you to create a life of meaning and purpose.
Outside of my work as a therapist, I enjoy the simple pleasures of life in rural Idaho. You’ll often find me on the pickleball court with my wife, indulging in a piece of dark chocolate, hiking or spending time with our two adult sons. These connections and moments of joy are integral to my own well-being and inform my belief in the importance of self-care and meaningful relationships.
